BRIEF

The BBC WIldlife Finder is a database of thousands of data, information and clips produced by BBC Natural History Unit since 1957. It is personally my favourite BBC service and I love exploring the archive and finding random animals and facts. Though this love I believed that this sort of content discovery would be perfect for a mobile application.

My goals were to produce a simple and elegant application, utilising content discovery through randomisation and not to replicate the website on mobile.

Using the iPhone’s hardware capabilities i wished to create a lightweight information cycle which (through shaking the phone) would refresh. I also wanted to add swiping capabilities using the devises touch screen interface.

After designing the core functions I decided to create a prototype using the Flash iOS exporter. This was processor light and easy for all generations of iPhone to function.

The app is currently a concept project which is to be reviewed by the BBC Knowledge team for possible release.
